My garden and yard were topics of discussion for several days a few weeks ago, but it’s taking center stage again in my life. I started my garden inside late in the spring, and while the plants flourished in the house, a sudden cold snap seemed to kill off all of my plants, so last weekend, I had to start over.
As you can see, I’ve planted corn, green beans, tomatoes, onion, green peppers, red peppers, celery, acorn squash, zucchini and possibly a few other things that I actually can’t remember.
I’ve had my garden for two years, and they have actually been rather successful. Two years ago, zucchini ruled the 12×12 pad I call my garden. Last year, I made the mistake of planting pumpkins and watermelon in the garden. Mistake. Both of them took over and choked out just about everything. By mid-summer I ripped out most of the plants because I wanted the pumpkins to succeed. In the end, the squirrels got them. We got nothing.
This year, I’ve been more conservative about what I planted. I hope to get lots of beans, pepper, corn and squash–all things my family love. What about you?
What’s in your garden? Or, if you had a garden, what would you plant?
