I’m not a photographer but I love pictures and I love taking them. In order to learn, I copy the best I see out there. Sometimes it’s a hit, sometimes it’s a miss, but I find what I like and I try to replicate. This is my feature Imitation is my art.
Today’s shot: Yes, another newborn one! What? I have a lot of them. This is sibling photography in natural light. It involved a window and a lot of light behind the subjects. To get this shot, I waited for the noon sun that floods our east-facing door wall. Our baby was just a few days old in this shot. She’s sitting in the lap of her big sister on the floor of our kitchen. I love the innocence that came out of this shot.
Theirs: I got this picture from Jean Smith Photography’s website. I had pinned it on Pinterest before our baby was even born. I knew I wanted to take this shot. I had no idea how much I would love my version.
At one point, I edited this picture to brighten the background and that added a new element to it. I just love the shadows and the way my older daughter is looking at her brand new sister.
