Two weeks ago, I turned 32. In August, we will welcome our third child. We own a home. We just bought our daughters bunk beds. It might be (gasp) time to admit we are grown ups. With that, we should probably start replacing our bachelor and bachelorette pad furniture with something a little more family-friendly.
My husband has a recliner that he will never give up. It’s nice, I’ll admit. It’s a Lazy Boy. But it takes up lots’o’space. And our house is not that large. After my cheap-o Art Van furniture couch broke, we moved his bachelor pad couch up from our basement. It’s nice, but it totally doesn’t match our living room, or his chair.
And that’s it.
There are four people in our family so watching a movie becomes a sure-fire cuddlefest. Which is generally nice, until three of them get pink eye and I’m left to wonder where I get to sit without being infected.
And when guests come over, forget it. They are sitting on the floor. Sorry. Sometimes they sit in these little kid chairs. Still awful. What we really need is a sectional and a few sitting chairs. Or a couch and love seat and sitting chairs. Or maybe we scratch all the furniture and get a giant TV.
Our living room is where we hang out the most. We are big movie buffs, we like to play board games on the floor and occasionally there is a Just Dance Disney family dance off with the XBox Kinect. We want the room to be fun and functional. We just haven’t been able to figure out what to do.
Couch and love seat? Sectional?
Fabric? Leather? (Think Simon Says)
But finally, we can get all of our questions answered in one place. Hillside Furniture in West Bloomfield, Mich. is having an expo on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27 from noon to 6 p.m. They will have information on new fabric technologies, remote controlling TVs and even thermostats from electronic device. It’s an opportunity to check out furniture and what might work in our living room. Plus, there will be some awesome raffles, including one for a MacBook Pro!
If you are considering an upgrade to your house, come out and visit the people at Hillside Furniture.
Oh, and as an added bonus, Just Baked will have some treats on hand.
And–even better–a portion of all the proceeds will be going to Kids Kicking Cancer.
Sounds like a pretty cool fun-filled day.
